Musical Audition Information

Auditions for Mary Poppins will take place January 16-18.  Auditions are open to any student in NCHS, so spread the word!  Please visit the musical page for information on auditions and everything you need to know about the musical.  Looking forward to a great show!  Show dates are April 19-22, 2018.

Holiday Concert Information

The annual NCHS Choir Holiday Concert will be held Thursday, December 7 at 7:00 pm in the NCHS Auditorium.  The concert will feature a variety of holiday songs from all of our curricular choirs, including Court Singers and Madrigals.

• Court Singers, 6:15 pm, Auditorium (new time!)
• Men's & Treble Choirs:  6:30 pm, Room 52
• Women's Chorale:  6:30 pm, Orchestra Room
• Chamber Chorale: 6:30 pm, Choir Room
• Chamber Singers, 6:40 pm, Hallway outside of Green Room

UNIFORM:  All students should wear their concert black uniform (tux, dress, or robe). All students are required to wear black dress shoes and black socks. Treble Choir students should wear all black from their knees down.

Madrigal Dinner Tickets Now On Sale!

Tickets are now available to the public for the annual Madrigal Dinners, Dec. 1-2!  Join us for feasting and fantastic music sung by our Chamber Singers and Court Singers!  Plus, musical and acting entertainment from our brass and string ensembles, jesters, and wenches.  This event will surely put you into the holiday spirit!  Tickets must be reserved in advance.  For ticket information, visit our Madrigal Dinners page.

Spaghetti Supper Flier / Info

The annual Unit 5 Music Parents Spaghetti Supper will take place on Monday, November 13 at NCHS.  Tickets for the dinner will be on sale through Friday this week (November 3).  After Friday, you will need to purchase dinner tickets at the door, and the cost goes from $7 to $10.

Fliers were sent home with students over a week ago, but in case you haven't seen that, please click here for the ticket order form.  You do not need to have tickets to watch the students perform - just for the spaghetti dinner itself. Proceeds from this fundraiser directly benefit NCHS Choirs, as well as all other secondary music programs in Unit 5.

Our performance will be at 8:25 pm, and call time for students is 7:45 pm in Room 52. Students should wear their NCHS choir t-shirt (which should be delivered this week or next if you ordered one), jeans, and nice casual shoes.  The theme this year is patriotic music, and your hearts will be stirred!  This is a required concert for all choirs EXCEPT Chamber Singers / Madrigals.

Iron Choirs Spirit Wear Now on Sale!

We have some great new designs for NCHS Choir Spirit Wear - available to anyone who wants it!  The sale runs from now through October 13.  You can pay online, and orders will be shipped to the high school and delivered from there. 

Students in Treble Choir, Men's Choir, Women's Chorale, and Chamber Chorale need to purchase either the black short sleeve t-shirt or the black long-sleeve t-shirt for their performance at the Spaghetti Supper (the one with the orange "C"...not design b).  If this is a financial burden on your family, please contact Mr. Luginbuhl and he will make sure you get one!

Portillo's Fundraiser Night!

If you haven't been to the new Portillo's yet, reserve Sept. 28 on your calendar and visit between 5-8 pm for our NCHS Choir Fundraiser Night!  20% of your purchase will go to the choir program!  Just bring in a copy of the flier or show it on your smart phone. Invite your friends and family to join us!

All proceeds raised will be divided among the students attending the New York City trip in June, 2018.  Hope to see you there!

Welcome Newsletter

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!  After a restful summer, I am excited to get started on another great year. Please read through the August Newsletter for information on what's new and other information for the school year.  Looking forward to seeing the students soon!

Court Singers Auditions

Auditions for the 2017-2018 Court Singers will take place on August 23-24 after school.  This ensemble is open to incoming freshmen!  Click on the Court Singers Auditions tab on the menu bar for more information!

ILMEA

Students interested in trying out for ILMEA All-District and All-State Chorus can begin practicing this summer!  Click on the ILMEA tab above to find copies of the scores, practice track links, sight-reading examples, and scales and triads help.  I hope to plan some ILMEA music rehearsals in late summer before school begins.  Now is the time to start working on this music! : )

New York City Meeting Information

Reminder: NYC 2018 Trip Meeting

We will be holding a kick-off meeting for the 2018 New York City trip on Tuesday, May 30 at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium.  Anyone interested in learning about the trip, including incoming freshman for 2017-2018, is welcome to attend!  We will present the tentative itinerary, and discuss costs, fundraising, and how to sign up.

Please park in the faculty lot in front of the auditorium, and enter the school through Door E.  The meeting should be 1 hour or less.  If you can't make it to the meeting, check back to this website for more information.

We're getting excited for an awesome trip in June 2018!

A Cappella Groups for 2017-2018

Thank you to everyone who auditioned for 2017-2018 Key of She and Voice Male.  It was incredibly hard to narrow these groups down to just 13, especially with 61 girls trying out this year!  Congratulations to our new members!

Spring Concert & Choir Banquet Information

It's hard to believe the last concert of the year is almost here!  Please click here for information on the Spring Concert (May 9), as well as the annual Choir Banquet & Senior Spotlight Concert, which will be held on Friday, May 12.  Reservation forms for the banquet are due to Mr. Luginbuhl by May 5.

Musical Opening Week!

NCHS proudly presents Big Fish, opening this weekend!  This touching musical centers around the relationship between a larger-than-life traveling salesman and his adult son, who looks behind his father's tall tales.  This modern show (it debuted on Broadway in 2013) has fantastic music performed by a great cast!  Don't miss it!  Performance dates and times:

• Wednesday, April 19:  FREE preview show offered to any Unit 5 junior high students! All you need is your Unit 5 ID to get in.  7:00 pm  Parents can get in for $1.
• April 20, 21, 22, 27, & 28 at 7:00 pm
• April 23 at 2:00 pm

• Reserved Seating:  $8 all ages
• General Admission:  $7 adults, $5 students

NYC Trip Fundraiser - Papa Murphy's Cards

We are beginning our first fundraiser for the New York City trip.  Students will be selling Papa Murphy's fundraiser cards, which are sold for $5 and have a savings value of approximately $35!  Students should sell the cards for $5, and should return all money and any unsold cards to Mr. L no later than March 23.  The money raised will go directly into student accounts that will be started for next year's NYC trip.  If you have any questions, please contact me. 

Unit 5 Choral Showcase Concert Information

The Unit 5 Choral Showcase concert will be held on Thursday, March 16 at 6:30 pm in the Normal WEST High School Gymnasium.  Please click here for information on rehearsals and performance information.  We are looking forward to a great concert and collaboration with Normal West and the Unit 5 junior high singers!

U5 Music Parents Prep.Freeze.Cook Fundraiser

The Unit 5 Music Parents are holding a Prep.Freeze.Cook fundraiser on March 27.  Each freezer meal serves 5, and there are lots of options!  Gluten-free and paleo options are also available.  No need to present a flier - just walk in!  Click here for more information. 

The Music Parents provide monetary and advocacy support for all secondary music programs in the U5 school system.  They are an invaluable partner in supporting music education in Unit 5!  Thank you for your support!

2017-2018 Chamber Chorale & Women's Chorale

Thank you for your patience while I figured out the class lists for next year.  Parents who are familiar with how choirs have worked in the past:  there has been a slight change.  Women's Chorale and Chamber Chorale are considered the same level, and BOTH choirs will contain sophomore, junior, and senior sopranos and altos. In the past, only junior and senior girls were considered for Chamber Chorale.  The girls have been divided evenly between the two choirs, with the goal that at some point during high school (outside of making Chamber Singers), sopranos and altos will have a chance to sing with tenors and basses for at least one year.  This is the most fair system for the way our numbers look for the next couple years.  I am excited for the direction we will be moving with the choirs.  If you have any questions, please contact me.

Students will NOT need to talk to their counselor to change their schedules.  Administration will make the changes for us.  If your name is not on these lists, you will be signed up for Concert Choir.  If you believe your name was left off the list in error, please see Mr. L ASAP.

Mark Your Calendars - Unit Choir Rehearsals

Women's Chorale and both Chamber Choirs will have rehearsal for the upcoming Unit 5 Choral Showcase on Tuesday, March 14 at Normal WEST High School.  These are mandatory rehearsals for the Unit Choir concert, which will be held on March 16 at West at 6:30 pm.

Women's Chorale rehearsal will be from 7:30 - 8:15 pm*
Chamber Chorale / Chamber Singers rehearsal will be from 8:15 - 9:00 pm*

*Please note: In the February choir newsletter, I mistakenly wrote the starting time as 6:30 pm. I apologize for the error.

Students in Treble Choir & Men's Choir will have their rehearsal during school and will not have to come for an evening rehearsal.

A Cappella Night - THIS FRIDAY!

Don't miss A Cappella Night this Friday night, Feb. 24, at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium!  This fun, relaxed event will feature Key of She, Voice Male, and our special guests from ISU, the Acafellaz and Secondary Dominance.  Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students, with a maximum of $10 for a family.  Hope to see you there!
